The idea that technological innovations remain only as laboratory experiments or have a restricted applicability has changed. And why is that? The answer is that technology is now closer to any person who gets into a shop or just stands in front of their computer with new purchasing ideas.
It is not unusual to buy the latest footwear innovation like a shoe that has a device inside and informs you through a mobile application the distance walked, the calories burnt or the time of a race. Just as realistic is the fact that the parents can monitor the temperature of their sick newborn directly from their smartphone.
All of this is happening because companies have realized the great potential of technological innovation when it comes to selling their products, since the product they sold before now is changed and redesigned with new ways of satisfying the client´s needs.
Now is the customer who demands more technology. To support this tendency comes up HMI (Human Machine Interface), a concept that maybe a few understand but in some way is the element that has activated the use of technology in many areas. HMI refers to the device or system that makes possible the human-machine communication. Simplifying this concept, a HMI system allows us to know or to control through a screen the state and functions of any object and at the same time allows the possibility to interfere in real time in order to receive an immediate reaction.
These systems are used more in the industrial sector to control and monitor the productive processes through panels or screens. Now, thanks to the mobility technologies (smartphones and tablets) is being introduced in more areas. Currently, any device that can communicate with an external element (by bluetooth,Wi-Fi, NFC, etc. ) is suitable for HMI technology. Most part of its use field can be found in areas such as robotics, domotics or inmotics: medical, industrial or domestic robots. On the other hand industry is another sector that uses this type of technology. This might be the case of the water content control in a swimming pool company, automatic watering systems in an irrigation company or function system control in aeronautics industry.
Why are these technologies used? On one hand because companies are saving energy or industrial equipment and on the other, they can make higher quality products in a more efficient way thanks to the benefits of the mobility.
If we move to a consumer level the greatest benefit is the improvement of the user experience since they deal with a product that has more functionality: it is not the same having a fixed security screen than a tablet that allows you to control not only the security but also the lighting, television or even the intensity of the fireplace from wherever you are.
Therefore we are dealing with a different type of consumer: those who have changed their needs and require more at technological level since they realized that this brings them more satisfaction and well-being.
Many times change is difficult to be made but once it has been done it is impossible to go back, in other words it would be too late to say no to all the opportunities that technology gives us.
